About Me

Thanks for taking the time to check out and read my blog.  I’m honored.  It’s always seemed obvious to me that everyone has creative tendencies and needs to find an outlet to express themselves.  Some people do this by working with their hands, others through cooking, singing, etc,…. I’m finding more and more that I like to do it with words.  Time will tell if it has any value to others.

I’m a follower of Christ, husband , father, and pastor.  Those are the things (and order) that I’m called to first and that matter most to me.  Everything else in life comes after these things.  I’ve messed up a lot in all four categories so far and I know there’s going to be more humbling experiences to come.  I praise the Lord for his love, mercy, grace, plan, patience and humor in my walk of faith.

I was born and spent my early grade school years in Southern Illinois, then grew up in Traverse City, Michigan.  Jessica and I met in college and were married in 1997.  We attended Michigan State University and then moved to Boston so I could attend Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary.   I taught both junior high and high school for ten years, coached basketball for 6 seasons, served on staff as a pastor with many ever-changing titles (Children’s Youth, Family, Assistant, and Associate) at a congregational church north of Boston for six years, before founding Sovereign Grace Community Church.  Jessica and I have lived all over the greater Boston area (Brookline, Gloucester, Salem, and Boxford) and now live in Topsfield with our daughter Lily.

I’m currently the Lead Pastor of Sovereign Grace Community Church.  Chances are you’ve seen the sovG ovals on cars when driving on the North Shore.  Our church website is www.sovG.us

I look forward to your feedback and thoughts on this blog.  I can be always reached at michael.sovG@gmail.com
